April 1, 1976 Apple Computer Is Founded |
No, fooling. After much experimentation with prototypes, Apple Computer was formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak on this day in 1976 to sell the Apple I personal computer kit. The first Apples were hand-built by Steve Wozniak in his parents' home. The computer did not come with a keyboard or monitor, but was only a "motherboard." Steve Jobs convinced a local computer store to buy 50 of them, which the store did only reluctantly. By the end of the 1970's the company was competing successfully with IBM and other main-line computer manufacturers. Jobs and Wozniak had a vision and went with it. Apple is the insanely great result of that passion.
