Last week, AmaWaterways sent us a press release on their newest Nile River ship, AmaLilia. I was going to post the release with some photos for you all to read, but when I got to looking at pictures of the ship, I knew that you all needed to see more than just a few of them.
The ship is absolutely beautiful, so you will see just how stunning she is in a minute. Before that, let’s take a look at the itinerary she’s sailing.
“Few countries grip the imagination quite like Egypt, with its massive pyramids, secret tombs, colorful markets and the majestic Nile River coursing through it all. There is no better way to discover Egypt than by cruising the Nile,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and executive vice president of AmaWaterways.
We agree, Kristin. Earlier this year, one of our readers, Paulette Hannah, was able to sail the Nile with AmaWaterways. Paulette wrote about the Pyramids of Giza, tombs and temples, buying souvenirs off of vendors in the river, and the incredible sights and people along the way. (See her post here). We quickly learned that Egypt and the Nile were a bucket-list destination for many.
The growing demand encouraged AmaWaterways to build the aforementioned AmaLilia. AmaLilia will sail the 11-night Secrets of Egypt & the Nile itinerary alongside AmaDahlia. The cruise and land experience includes a seven-night round trip river cruise from Luxor and is paired with three nights pre- and one-night post-cruise stays in Cairo at the St. Regis Cairo, overlooking the Nile River.
This itinerary provides travelers with the opportunity to experience the ancient wonders of Egypt, guided by experts through UNESCO World Heritage Sites and locations such as the Great Hypostyle Hall of Karnak, the Temple of Luxor, and the Valley of the Kings and Queens. While in Cairo, guests will also have the chance to visit the Egyptian Museum and come face-to-face with Egyptian treasures at the UNESCO-designated ancient capital of Memphis.
Paulette’s story mentioned the colossal statue of Ramses II, the Alabaster Sphinx, and the necropolis of Sakkara, home to the famous step pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest pyramid on earth, all which can be seen on this itinerary. Guests will also enjoy a private tour and gourmet lunch at the Abdeen Presidential Palace, the principal workplace of the President of Egypt and one of the most luxurious palaces in the world.
Throughout the journey, guests will be treated to authentic nightly entertainment and be accompanied by knowledgeable Egyptologists who will stay on the ship and join them on enriching excursions.
Now it’s time to take a look at what AmaLilia has to offer.
Newly designed to accommodate 82 guests, AmaLilia features 41 staterooms offering panoramic views, including 13 suites measuring up to 522 sq. ft.
The Sun Deck has a bar and a swimming pool, perfect for lounging after a busy day of sightseeing. I mean, look at those chairs. On a river ship? Next level. The ship also houses plenty of other amenities like a fitness room, hair and nail salon, and a massage room.
In true AmaWaterways’ style, the ship will have two restaurants serving locally inspired cuisine – The Main Restaurant and The Chef’s Table.
Perhaps my favorite areas of the ship though, are the Lounge and the Lobby. The Lobby of the ship is so bright and open thanks to the use of colors, windows, and skylights, it almost feels like it’s outside. It’s enough to make you say wow as soon as you walk onboard.
The Lounge looks so comfortable and cozy with its rich colors and textures. It will be the perfect place to end each day of exploring.
After seeing these photos again I’m convinced AmaLilia is currently the most beautiful ship on the rivers. But don’t just take my word for it, go see her and learn the Secrets of Egypt and the Nile yourself.
