Step-By-Step

Looking back over the past few months, I find myself smiling at the many household accomplishments I have made. I will be quick to admit that many of these have spent a long time in the “incubation” stage much to the chagrin of my wife.

It seems I can overlook things needing attention far faster than my wife. I trust I am not the only husband who can identify with this apparent “flaw.” In any event, the summer of 2023 was the year I scratched off a slew of items from my “To-Do List.”

I suppose the most important aspect of this accomplishment was the fact that I knew exactly what needed to be done. (1) The driveway needed repaving; (2) The house shutters required a fresh coat of paint; (3) The garden needed weeding, mulching, and a few more bushes; (4) The basement needed a massive overhaul leading to a dump-run; (5) The garage floor begged for a washing and a new coat of paint.

Many of these “chores” were annual listings, but this was the year I can proudly say, “Done, done, done, done, and done.”

And now I would like to segue over to you and your list, as it may pertain to your business. In all probability, you have been putting off a list of items you know require a little loving care. Perhaps your website needs attention. Maybe your blog requires a little more consistency. Are you currently proud of your one-sheet? Have you been thinking about a new source of revenue in the next 12 months? (Fill in your personal concern here.)

The New Year is looming large and it is the perfect time to refocus your attention on your “To-Do List” with a vengeance and begin crossing off each item one by one.

I look back over my accomplishments this year feeling good. But I also asked myself, “Why did it take so long?” My answer was simple yet profound. “Because it did.”

Only you can decide what needs doing and whether you are committed to the task. But I can tell you the feeling of accomplishment will be well worth the short-term pain.
