The wildfires on the beautiful island of Maui have devastated many homes and caused a great deal of destruction. As travel agents, we are responsible for letting our clients know about this tragedy and how they can help the victims in any way possible.
First, assist any clients that may be traveling to get home safely. Secondly, work with clients who may have trips to Maui to reschedule or plan a different destination. While Lahaina is utterly devastated, and other areas of the island are open, it will take several months (at least) for things to return to normal.
It is essential to inform your clients of any updates or changes in flight plans, if applicable. Be aware of any safety alerts that may affect your client’s travel plans and provide them with helpful resources and information they can use during their travels.
By educating our clients on Maui’s current events and how to help, we can make a difference and show our dedication to the island.
Immediately, as an industry, we need to help. And as decent people, we should encourage our clients to help with this tragedy. Look to local charities such as American Red Cross – Hawaii State Chapter or Maui Food Bank to donate or find ways to help.
By staying informed and encouraging our clients to support the residents and businesses affected by this tragedy, we can help the island of Maui recover from these wildfires and come together as one. Mahalo!
