A Lesson From the Music Industry’s Taylor Swift

Regardless of your age or musical preference, you undoubtedly have heard of Taylor Swift. Like her sound or not, this young lady is incredibly successful based on numerous reference points. In a recent Inc. Magazine, the author positioned Ms. Swift’s successful strategy as one that other “successful want-to-be’s” could easily follow. 1. Sell Relentlessly

I have reminded audiences for years that people can’t possibly do business with you if they don’t know you are alive. If you believe that your product can solve a customer’s problem than it is your duty to bring this fact to their attention. It is also important to recognize the fact that each and every would-be customer has a myriad of options. Your offer being just one of them. That is where The Rule of 7 comes into play. You must continually position you, and your product, as the answer.

2. Remember Personal Details

The TV Show Cheers said it best in their opening theme song. “You want to be where everybody knows your name.” Forgetting people’s names soon after introduction seems to be a common frailty among most adults today. We all can benefit from a little discipline in this area. And it will be in your best interest to move beyond the name and remember individual details from the people you want to establish a working relationship with.

3. Create New Products

As solid as your product or service may be, it too has a shelf life and will soon be considered obsolete. Good, bad or indifferent, people gravitate toward the new. Give them something to think about.

4. Build on the Power of Happy Customers

Satisfied customers do not grow on trees. It took time and energy to put a smile on their face. Learn to leverage that satisfaction by seeking help from your happy customers. Ask them to introduce you to their peers. Invite them to offer service recommendations and always try to keep them in the loop as you try different things. For those who know me, you will understand when I suggest that you treat these happy customers like dogs. That in a nutshell is Taylor Swift‘s secret and it can soon be yours. Sell, remember, create and build.
