This past Thursday, I returned from France after back-to-back barge trips in Burgundy. To say that my 17 days in France was wonderful would be an understatement.
For starters, we had a fun group of people. They came from Georgia, British Columbia, Alberta, California, Colorado, Illinois and other regions throughout North America. We had lots of laughs, enjoyed long canal-side walks and bike rides, indulged in delightful dinners, sipped sumptuous wines, and so much more.
Our barge, CroisiEurope’s Daniele, took us from Besançon to Dijon, where we overnighted in a five-star hotel, then back to the barge to travel from Dijon to Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune via the Burgundy Canal, the Saône River and the gorgeous Canal du Centre.
I documented the first part of our journey in Barging In Burgundy. You’ll find the second part of our trip in Barging Through Burgundy: Week Two Of Our Adventure.
I’ve said it many times on River Cruise Advisor, and I’ll say it again now. My barge trips, which I have hosted since 2015, are among the best travel experiences of my life. Traveling with just 20 others on the beautiful French canals is hard to beat.
