Luxurious Harmony of Technology and Nature in Singapore

Upon first glance of every image available, Singapore is a city of the future. Contoured skyscrapers and artful glass domes stand over coastal waters. Once a quaint fishing village, Singapore has become one of the leading shipping and banking centers of the world as well as a leader in technological advances. It is a land of modern silicon valleys and a mixed culture with people from all over the East—creating a rich heritage of cultures and sights for the traveler to experience.

Singapore is located on the Straits of Malacca, a convenient route for trade traffic through the Southeast China Sea. Like most port cities and countries, this has created a melting pot of cultures within the country. Large populations of Indians, Chinese, and Malay have become a normal mix.

Marina Bay

Located right on the shores of downtown Singapore, Marina Bay and the buildings around it are a prime example of reaching for the sky. Marina Bay Sands Singapore is a luxurious hotel that helps define the skyline. This ultra-luxury resort is made up of three separate buildings, each 57 stories tall, with a flat level spanning across all three rooftops—and the rooftop features the world’s largest infinity pool. Also features on the bay are an esplanade with a theatre, plenty of piers for taking in the sites, and the Gardens by the Bay.

Gardens by the Bay

The Gardens by the Bay, in the heart of downtown, is a compliment to this shine of modernity with plant life that seems an oasis. Within these gardens are many delights of floral and architectural sights. The Cloud Forest is home to one of the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls, with some of the most exotic plant species covering a mountain. The view is even more stunning from the aerial walkways throughout the dome. Floral Fantasy and Flower Dome are filled with the vibrant colors of thousands of flowers. And, top it off, the Supertree Observatory showcases the whole garden from the highest point—particularly the massive bloom of lighted artificial trees in the Supertree Grove.

Culinary Excellence

Like most port towns, this mix of cultures is a sure sign of great culinary choices. Seafood is a staple in the cuisine of Singapore. Some of the more famous seafood dishes are hard-shell crab with a tomato chili-based gravy (chili crab); noodles with fish cake, clams, and Chinese sausage (char kuay teow), and a ramen-like meal of prawns, chicken or pork, squid, and fish cake (hokkien prawn mee). Though, chicken and pork recipes are popular as well. Especially with the integrated flavors of Indian and Chinese culture.

Beaches

Siloso beach in Sentosa Island, Singapore

The rapid expansion of Singapore city led to the disappearance of most of the natural beaches. Now though, Man-made beaches of golden sand are found all over. On the main island, the traveler will find beaches at East Coast park, Sembawang Park, West Coast park, and many more. For offshore island beaches (which are usually quieter) Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, and Tanjong are all relaxing points for a getaway.
