“When we fail to stop, drop and roll out next-gen strategies, we end up out of touch and out of business.” – Stuart
It’s easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of the day. On bad days, we rush to put out the little fires that pop-up. On good days, we rush to put out the big proposals that pop-in. Inevitably, our workplace becomes a pop-culture meaning we are perpetually focused on whatever is popping that day.
The good news is that we somehow manage to get the job done. Call-backs are accomplished. Goods and services are delivered. Bills get paid, invoices get sent. By all accounts, we believe business must be booming! Instead, it is cooling.
Unless we pop outside of the workplace regularly to study internal and external trends, we end up out-of-sync. Unless we consistently evaluate and elevate our online presence, we end up out-of-date. Unless we assess and acquire new skills, we end up out of gas.
When we fail to stop, drop and roll out next-gen strategies, we end up out of touch and potentially out of business. In his book entitled Techno Trends, Dan Burrus states, “If it works, it’s obsolete.” Well said!
How is it possible for you to be OBSOLETE-PROOF in a marketplace where consumers are less loyal and more fickle? The simple solution is to avoid getting comfortable in your busy-ness. So, I encourage you to RECALCULATE even if you think you’re headed in the right direction.
I despised hearing my old-school GPS device shout RECALCULATING. It meant that I had screwed up after missing a critical turn (or it was more screwed up and lost than me, which also happened on occasion!). Today, I think we’re very lucky to have services like Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze. They proactively navigate for us, finding faster routes and helping us avoid delays.
When customers go dark and sales slip, that’s our business shouting RECALCULATE! Here’s the rub: We won’t hear the warning if we’re operating in the pop-culture that keeps us out-of-the-loop.
It is possible to be OBSOLETE-PROOF in the worst and best of times. “Even if it is working, RECALCULATE!”.
