Mark Twain

On this day in 1835, Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in the small town of Florida, Missouri. Better known by his pseudonym, Mark Twain, the writer proved to be one of the true originals of American literature. His novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn earned Twain a public following even in his own day. His wit and keen satire are staples of popular quotations, and his insights into human nature are as accurate today as when he first penned them. At his request, his autobiography was withheld from full publication for 100 years, and was thus just published during 2010. He died on April 21, 1910.
