Gone with the Wind Published

In 1936 Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind published and became an almost instant bestseller. The story, which revolves around Scarlett O'Hara, weaves its tale of private struggle into the framework of the American Civil War and Reconstruction Era, artfully depicting both the Old South and the immediate post-war south. Though controversial for its depiction of slavery and plantation life, the novel is to this day considered one of the most loved of American Literature.
