Lawrence of Arabia Dies

Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence, better known as "Lawrence of Arabia" died on this day in 1935 at the age of 46 from a motorcycle accident near Dorset, England. During World War I, T.E. Lawrence used his knowledge of Arab customs, and an amazing array of contacts in the Arab world, to assist in the coordination of a revolt of many Arab leaders against the Ottoman Turks, furthering British strategic interests. His exploits found great publicity in the hands of newspaper man Lowell Thomas's sensationalized reportage of the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire.
