The Twenty-fifth Amendment Ratified

In 1965, United States Senator Birch Bayh proposed an amendment to the United States Constitution that would definitively set forth the plan of succession in the event of the death or incapacity of the President. The language of the Constitution was deemed ambiguous. Precendent suggested that the Vice-President would assume the duties of the President, but it was unclear as to whether the Vice-President would actually become the President. On February 10th, 1967 Minnesota and Nevada ratified the Amendment, making it the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
