World's First Commercial Movie Screened

On the 28th of December in 1895, history was made at a the Salon Indien du Grand Café in Paris. Two French brothers, Louis and Auguste Lumiere, had just developed a projector camera they dubbed the "Cinematographe". The screening in December featured ten short films they cranked through the projector, including their first film Sortie des Usines Lumière à Lyon depicting factory workers leaving the Lumiere facility. After the screening, the Lumiere brothers toured in 1896 through the major cities of Bombay, London, Brussels, New York City, Buenos Aires, and Montreal with their films. The Lumieres opened cinemas and sent film crews to capture more footage for audiences, igniting the cinema industry we still enjoy today.
